Would imply a professional to me, but a sailor can also be someone who does it for fun.
Also, this was explicitely about sail boats, not just any kind of boats on water.
I'm not sure I follow the argument that {beq} implies a professional. If someone is Shanghaied, for instance, I don't see why they wouldn't be considered a {beq}.
If you're insistent about the sail (which English is not; many Navy sailors serve on non-wind-propelled vessels such as aircraft carriers) you can just add {SolDeS}:
{SolDeS Duj beq} "sail vessel crew(person)"
