Description/Reason:
be broken without separation of parts; be fractured but not into pieces. Many materials can be cracked without being broken: glass, ceramic, crystal, hard plastic, rock, carbon fiber, and others. For example: The bone was cracked, but it was not completely broken. The window is cracked because of the hail. The captain used a cracked teacup.

A "crack" as a noun is probably a kind of 'fissure' {Qargh}, but this idea seems sufficiently complex to warrant its own word; especially since we don't seem to have a great way of talking about the surface of an object in the abstract.
