Seems like an easy workaround would be {(tera') ghotI' beQ}.
Not even English needs a word for flatfish. It's a ghotI' beQ. If there are multiple species of flat fish on Klingon worlds, their differences will not align with the differences between terran ones. There might be tInbogh ghotI' beQ, yeghbogh ghotI' beQ, qu'bogh ghotI' beQ or bIQ'a' jaQ Dabbogh ghotI' beQ.
Are you really asking for a Klingon animal, or do you just want to be able to talk about the Terran flounder or sole in Klingon?
We have dozens of unique words for different birds. Why not fish?
Generally agreed, but then I'd prefer to do it with fish that aren't easily describable or, preferably, just asking Maltz for a dozen or so Klingon fish species of his choice and not just ask for the equivalents of Earth species that may not have one. A lot of the bird species we have don't have a clear Terran equivalent or at least weren't defined through them. So that's what I would prefer for fish as well.
Some seem to be original, and quite a few are in-jokes about Terran birds. A {lIr} is a pun on an owl, a {cha'bIp} is a pun on a roadrunner, {Da'vI'} and {Da'nal} are famous ducks.
I also wouldn't mind this logic applied to fish, or indeed several kinds of fish.
