It seems that ‘uch works for The child clings onto his targh. But, I think it might not work for The dust clings to my uniform. What should I do about the second instance of cling?

Does dust actually “cling”, or is there just dust on your uniform? I don’t believe the dust is “clinging”. That suggests, to me, that it is actively holding onto something. I would suggest simply rewording it to use a verb we do know instead of “clinging” onto the English verb.

HIpDaq Say’qIS tu’lu’There is dust on my uniform

HIpwIj vel Say’qISDust coats/covers my uniform (if there’s a lot of it)

I agree with your analysis, but is {vav} a verb? I can’t find it on Hol ‘ampaS.

peHruS answered my question – it’s obvious you meant {vel}.

HIpwIj vel Say’qIS might work for “covers”; but it still does satisfy me for “clings”. What about things that attached temporarily by static electricity?

      You could say {ngam}:
{HIpwIjDaq ngam Say’qIS} “Dust adheres to my uniform”.

Or you could say {HIr}, if the dust is particularly difficult to remove:
{HIpwIj HIr SayqIS} “Dust is stuck to my uniform.”

Ugh, I forgot the {-Daq} on the second {HIpwIj}.

I like these. They are certainly good options. 😀
