During the qep'a', the voice channels on Discord are set to "Push-To-Talk" mode in order to reduce the chances of audio feedback and unexpected disruptions.
We highly recommend downloading and using the native Discord application for your computer. You can grab the most recent version at https://discord.com/download
The qep'a' can be accessed via the web interface, but it may cause issues with audio and video.
Push-To-Talk works much like a CB Radio or Walkie-Talkie does, but does require configuration before it will work.
Desktop/Laptop (Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc)
To setup Push-To-Talk on your computer follow these steps:
- Click on the "User Settings" icon at the bottom of the Discord screen next to your name and icon:
- Select "Voice and Video" under App Settings in the menu on the left:
- Change the "Input Mode" to "Push To Talk":
- If you are having audio issues in general, this is a good time to change that your Input Device and Output Device, at the top of the screen, are set correctly.
- Select your "Shortcut" by clicking the "Record Keybind" button or small keyboard icon (Discord might show either) and then selecting a key. I recommend using a key that is not often used in normal typing, like CTRL:
- Click the large X in the top right corner to save your settings and return to the main Discord screen:
Once you have configured Push To Talk you should be able to enter the qep'a' channels and communicate with others. The best channel to test this is the #Free-Chat channel.
Mobile Devices (Android, iOS)
On mobile devices, Push To Talk should enable automatically when you join a channel that requires it.
If it doesn't, follow these steps
- Click the User Settings icon (the small gear/cog on the end) to open the Voice and Video settings:
- Tap on "Input Mode"
- Select "Push To Talk"
- Back the Back Arrow at the top to go back to the Channel screen
- A "Push To Talk" button should show on the bottom of the screen
That should be all you need to do some listen and speak on mobile. Video chat also works on mobile, but can sometimes have issues. If you plan to use video, we recommend using the desktop software on a PC of some kind.
