New submissions should be for:

• Unique concepts that cannot be expressed using currently available Klingon words.
• Specific questions that do not yet have an answer.

Since the chabal tetlh was created, the community has often voted against certain types of submissions. These include:

• Human names that can easily be written using Klingon sounds, especially place names and food names.
• Concepts that are specific to Earth or the English language.
• Proposed new Klingon cultural concepts, as Dr. Okrand does not tend to create new cultural concepts.
• Requests that specify how a new word should be spelled.
• Incomplete or unclear submissions.

If your submission may fall into one of these categories, or you are unsure whether something should be submitted, we strongly recommend asking the Klingon-speaking community first. You can do this through the KLI Discord Server, the Learn Klingon Facebook group, or the KLI Mailing List. Many experienced speakers in these groups may already know the answer to your question or may be able to help you improve your submission.

These submission guidelines are based on feedback from the KLI membership and Dr. Okrand, along with experiences over the past few years of running the tetlh. 

Ultimately, the final decision to grant new words and answers lies with Dr. Okrand. A high score does not automatically guarantee that a submission will be accepted. 

The Directors of the KLI reserve the right to blacklist, lock, or delete submissions that fall outside the KLI's mission, are beyond the scope of this process, or violate our community guidelines.
