It's from "Klingon Empire: A Burning House" by Keith R.A. DeCandido; a farmyard pest found on the conquered world of Pheben III. I don't think it's established that it's rodent-like, though, or even mammalian; just that it's a pest.
It's also mentioned in "The Klingon Art of War", where it's made clear that korvits were also found on Qo'noS, even before the days of Kahless.
So, presumably, the species is native to Qo'noS but a handful of specimens found their way to Pheben III as stowaways or something, and then proceeded to breed like Australian rabbits.
Either that, or there's a species indigenous to Pheben III that's so similar to korvits that they decided to just call them Pheben III. Maybe most Klingons call them "Phebenian korvits" (*vIyben* *qorvItmey*?) or something, but the farmers who've settled there leave out the first word for the sake of convenience.
With all of that being said, though, neither "A Burning House" nor "The Klingon Art of War" are canon; Marc Okrand vetted the glossary for "Diplomatic Implausability", but not for any of DeCandido's other works.
Personally, I'm tempted to call squirrels <[tera'] Sor Qa'Hom>. I believe that in "Star Trek: Klingon", they used a small hedgehog to illustrate what a <Qa'Hom> looked like, and hedgehogs and squirrels are at least kind of similar.
I'm also tempted to call them <toSwI'>, because it sounds similar to *chuSwI'* (another [non-canonical] animal from DeCandido's books; a burrowing rodent).

Perhaps [pob law' ] may work better for "hairy". Thanks for the correction,
though many/numerous does not seem to fit a noun like "hair" to my
understanding.
Otherwise I was referencing a specific colloquial expression referring to the
genus in question, you may be unfamiliar with it as a cursory search indicates
its usage is a lot rarer than I thought. As I doubt students/teachers of this
particular language have tender ears (if you do turn away now), the term is
"hairy arsed tree rat".
