The fact that {'eq} and {paS} do not mean all of the meanings of "early" and 
"late".  "Young" and "old" fit the other means of "early" and "late" pretty 
well, I think.  They both indicate a relative position along a timeline near the 
beginning or end.  Granted, they are figurative in that sense.
