{Doch} isn't always used as "thing" is in English. You're probably looking
for {ngoD} "fact".
And {ngoD} would be the subject of the verb {DuH} "to be possible":
{chay' DuH ngoDvam?} "How is this fact possible?"
Another possibility: {chay' DuH?} "How is it possible?"
