If you're the one initiating the encounter, the only information
communicated by a word like "hello" is that you follow a certain social
protocol. In Klingon culture, the preferred protocol when "greeting"
someone is to state your business.

If someone comes up to you and doesn't quickly make his intentions known,
the Klingon word {nuqneH} is appropriate. If you come up to someone and
wish to get his attention before speaking further, something like {yIqIm}
-- or probably a clipped {qIm} -- might be okay. {qavan} carries meaning,
and unless you really want to tell someone you salute him it's not a word
I'd suggest.

In email, you already have the reader's attention. Don't worry about any
particular greeting.
