If you have been following the thread, *you* should be fully aware that
there's no question that indirect objects can be treated as beneficiaries.
You should also be more careful about getting your sources identified
correctly -- this clarification is in the Addendum, not the Appendix.

It would indeed mean that if "the tree" were an indirect object. But my
perception remains that "at the tree" is merely a location in this and
similar examples.
