Re: *Egypt*ngan Hol vIDelqa'

Ack! My Lurk Mode button seems to be jammed in the OFF position!

We should not encourage the perpetuation of "abbreviations." We are not
abbreviating written Klingon, we are abbreviating an English transcription
system of spoken Klingon. I think Klingons would NOT recognize any of these
abbreviations.

And since we type in a transcription system which is meant to describe how
Klingon SOUNDS, not how it is written, just how would you pronounce
{tlh.w.D}? And even if Klingons do have a pronouncable abbreviation of this
(which we have not seen), only Marc Okrand has the means to discover what it
is.

Let us not succumb to regionalizing the KLI or this mailing list. Like the
Klingons, we should accept {ta' Hol} as the correct standard. We should be
aware of known regional variations, perhaps even learning some. But the
creation of a new KLI or mailing list regional variation will only serve to
confuse people. It's cute, but imagine the newcomer who thinks he's
expected to learn and use these abbreviations.
