RE: KLBC: jaj mu'mey vI'lo'.
pagh:
: I will make one general comment, though. The word <jan> does not
: *specifically* mean "musical instrument". It is a general word meaning
: "device", and <QoQ jan> is the specific term for a musical instrument.
: See KGT page 74 for more. It says in particular that <QoQ jan> is seldom
: shortened to just <jan>.
For those interested, {jan} "device" also appears in several compound nouns
referring to machinery from the Klingon Bird-of-Prey poster:
baHjan launcher
('otlh) peng baHjan (photon) torpedo launcher
botjan shield(s)
begh botjan deflector shield(s)
Saqjan landing gear
and was used in SkyBox S19 to refer to cloaking devices:
janmey ngo' lulo'lu'DI' pIj jabbI'ID nISpu' woj
Older models were susceptible to radiation.
The diminutive {janHom} "little device" (i.e. gadget, gizmo) showed up in
the Hallmark BoP ornament commercial, where it was translated *very* loosely:
Qapqu' wovmoHbogh janHommey
It even has working lights!
