In Access, I have each word written in pIqaD using my own kerned
version of Lawrence's font, the same spelling in my own
constructed ligature font (so that when I type "x" a single
character appears that looks like "tlh" (Hey, I had fun with
Fontographer), and for sorting, I have a text field where I type
in tlhIngan as "t2in2an1" and Qo'noS as "q2ozn1os". I have the
definition, a link to a list of parts of speech, a link to a
list of sources and a link to a list of canon uses (this last
one I have not yet populated). There's also a comment (memo)
field.
My JFile version lacks links, but has dropdown lists for source,
part of speech, certain grammatical notes (like whether a verb
has been used transitively, intransitively or both, or if it has
been used adjectivally, and whether nouns use language or are
body parts. I'm more limited in comment field length, but I have
check boxes for puns, words in the New Word list, words that
need attention (typically words that I have not yet put in the
New Words list), I mark whether a word is apparently a
derivative so I can get a more accurate count of unique words,
and I have a field for related words.
My eventual plan is to merge these into a compatible format so
that the JFile version can be converted into the Dictionary
version through a query in Access, and this intermediate file
can be related to the current Access database, so I don't have
to manually synchronize these dictionaries all the time. This
won't happen for a while.
