and are chuckling.  {pa'} is a noun.

Even as a noun, the restriction concerning {pa'} (and {naDev} and {Dat}, as
described on TKD pp.27-8) only apply to use of the locative suffix.  There
is no restriction against using any other Type 5 noun suffix.  {pa'vo'}
means either "from thereabouts" or "from the room," and {pa''e'} means
"THEREABOUTS (as topic)" or "the ROOM (as topic)."

pa''e' neH wInejbe'pu'.

I'd say this means "Only THEREABOUTS have we not searched for him/her/it."
Smooth translation: "That's the only place we haven't looked."

Works for me!

By the way, we've also seen {-vo'} on another of those three exceptional
nouns: {naDev}.

naDevvo' vaS'a'Daq majaHlaH'a'?

Not only does it demonstrate and prove that other Type 5 noun suffixes can
go on those exceptional nouns, but it also clearly violates the new
information Okrand provided us in HolQeD Vol. 7 No. 4.  Obviously, the two
Federation crewmen are not trying to "go" while inside the Great Hall.  But
that's okay; there are lots of violations of this newer rule in the audio
tapes.  I simply consider the new rule to be occasionally true.
