& My feeling is this - if we want an open environment for the most
& people to participate in speaking Klingon, I'm afraid the MUSH's
& complexity will work counter to that.
The MUSH really isn't that complicated, unless you want to program
yourself a tribble, as ghunchu'wI' did.
Start with: create name password
(you put what you want for the name and password)
Then you get some instructions. I think you keep typing 'next' to
get through it. All the instructions are on the screen at this
point.
You can now move around the MUSH by typing the name or abbreviation
of any exit you see. If you just want to talk, I recommend you go to
the Happy Forehead. You can wander around the city and find it, or
just type: @tel #32 and teleport there.
If there is no one there, type WHO (all capital letters). That tells
you who is logged on and how long it has been since they last issued
a command (idle time). Pick someone and "page" them. If I am logged
on, you can type:
p Qov=How come there is no one in the Happy Forehead? I want to
learn Klingon!
If the person has been idle a long time, they may not be at their
computer, so don't be offended if they don't answer. They might get
back to you later.
To talk to people you start your line with a quote (") character. I
type:
"nuqneH?
I see: You say "nuqneH?"
You see: Qov says "nuqneH?"
That is all you REALLY need to know in order to use the MUSH to learn
tlhIngan Hol. The complexities you can ignore.
& P. S. Why DID the MUSH's popularity die off? Do we have any answers
& or speculation?
Speculation ... When there are two people on, others tend to log
on and stay rather than logging off right away, and the nucleus
grows. Perhaps when two of three heavy MUSH addicts tried to
kick our addiction and a major change of life and moved away
from it, there stopped being anyone around to hold the people who
log on for five minutes to see if anyone will show up. There never
were tonnes of people on, so a few less could have a big effect.
