Talker and Borg

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello, folks!

Well, the KLI Talker page is still up and running, with occasional folks
and press popping in. We have a few events planned already, and more on
the way, and I'll probably redesign the page sometime Real Soon.

I wanted to announce a regular "event" there, as well as recommend a
protocol for listmembers annoyed at waiting around there alone.

First, the Grammarian Office Hours. I plan to do my best to be at that
page every Tuesday from 9 to 10 pm Eastern time (US), and Wednesday from 8
to 9 pm. So at least you'll know someone's likely to be there if you come
at those times. No class, no plan, no script, just a Klingonist for
chatting.

Now, a suggestion. I learned this arranging trips to zoos and such with
friends. Trouble with Talker often is that you can show up there, wait
around alone for a few minutes, and then get bored when nobody is there to
talk to. If you're connected to it, you may find it hard to do other
stuff. And you might miss four other folks who also "just popped in" by a
matter of minutes. So I suggest this. If you're on some time, and want
to see if others are around to chat with, show up every hour, on the hour,
for five or ten minutes. Hopefully, other people will follow the same
protocol and show up to chat with you. If not, you can go back to what you
were doing without waiting and waiting "just another minute" to see if
someone's going to stop in. You only wind up waiting a few minutes per
hour.

Lastly, a piece of not completely Klingon related news. Some of you may
recall the Klingon Challenge contest, run as part of the promotion for the
Klingon CD-ROM game. I know quite a few of you won watches and stuff from
it. You may also remember that I won the grand prize, which included a
trip to the Star Trek 30th Anniversary bash in Huntsville, in September.
It also included a "guest spot" in the new CD-ROM game, Star Trek: Borg.
That game is recently out (or will soon be out: at any rate, I got my
copy). It's not a bad game, and if you get it, install the "Picard
Dossier" part and look at that (I think it's on the second or third disc).
After starting up the Dossier, quit out of it, and in the quit screen
choose "Rogues Gallery" near the bottom to see pictures and hear audio from
all the winners, including me. OK, it's sort of corny, but hey, it's cool.
