It's not that wordy, when you think about it. Restating the question really
only adds one word, and not even a really long word either. The elements
of the question that are the same, of course, would not need to be
repeated. I think Japanese does the same thing: "Is this X or Y" ==> "X
deska? Y deska?"
Adding "unladen" really doesn't add much to the joke.... It only helps in
the original context. :) Besides, it made sense without it, right?
