There is much {perhaps non-canon] evidence that Klinzai (Qo'noS) was quite
lush with much water before a passing asteroid altered the planets orbit and
tilt slightly but enough that only 13 large bodies of water remained on the
planet's surface.  From that time on Klingons strived to live close to water
sources and thus became far more aggressive.

In Vulcan literature, in particular "Vulcan's Glory" by Dorothy C. Fontana,
Spock became much more stolid because of having lost his first true romance,
not T'Pring, but T'Pris.

My point is:  Klingons were not always a warrior society.  They became one.
 Neither were the Japanese always a warrior society and are not now, but some
of the social mores have rubbed off into their assertive business practices.
