In Alexander's biography of Gene Roddenberry, 'Star Trek Creator', he 
says that the warrior race was named and modeled somehwat after a 
co-worker of Roddenberry's on the Los Angeles police department named
Wilbur Klingon.

Wilbur?!?!?!?!
