so how wide an approximation is allowed?
/a/ = any open unrounded vowel (front, central or back)?
/e/ = any front unrounded vowel between mid-open and mid-closed?
/i/ = any closed front unrounded vowel?
/o/ = any back rounded vowel between mid-open and mid-closed?
/u/ = any closed back rounded vowel?
what about length of /a/, /o/ and /u/?
(I myself think all vowels short sounds more aggressive...}}:-}

and while we're at it, do you consider
[dZab:I?ID] correct for jabbI'ID or only
[dZab|bI?ID] ? (don't know how to write
retroflex d in ASCII)
