Federation Science and the KLI

Last night the Franklin Institute (a science and technology museum here
in Philadelphia) opened their exhibit of "Federation Science." This is a
very fun exhibt which was created in Oregon and which has been touring
the US for the last few years. Now it's here in Philadelphia for the next
three months, luring people in with Star Trek, and showing them the
science behind the fiction.

My part in this began last night as well. The Franklin Institute has
contracted me to deliver sixteen lectures on the Klingon language (no,
not 16 different ones, pretty much the same one, 16 times). Last night
was the first set of three, one right after another, as the crowd has
been split into three sections and were rotated through two parts of the
exhibit and my lecture, in turns.

It was quite exhausting, but also a lot of fun. Matt Gomes (from out
west in California) popped in and caught the first and third lectures
(wisely sneaking off to check out the REAL exhibit during the second).
Hundreds of KLI fliers were passed out. I pushed TKD purchases (the
museum has a Star Trek store set up special) as well as back issues of
HolQeD. I go back tomorrow to give another lecture, and then another ten
or so throughout the rest of October.

These lectures are a prelude to the two that Mark Shoulson and I will be
giving in New Jersey when the exhibit moves to a museum there (after the
Franklin Institute is done with it).
