OK, here goes:
{-Daq} is what we call "locative" or "allative". This means that either an
action is done:
1) at the location of a physical object;
2) inside a physical object;
3) on a physical object (not necessarily with the meaning "on top of");
4) to a physical object.
Now, the preposition "via" in English is what we linguists :D call an
"instrumental". This means that an action is done by means of, by the agency
of, by the use of, or with a certain noun (the "instrument" of a sentence).
Our collective explanations basically sum up to this point:
If, and ONLY if, "on" and "via" mean the same in the English sentences (e.g.
"I go to Kronos via shuttlecraft" vs "I go to Kronos on a shuttlecraft")
then we can translate {-Daq} with "via", because here, "via" = "on". As
ngabwI' said, we need to take these things on a case by case basis.
Hang in there. I was a beginner not long ago myself, so I know just what
you're going through. {{:)
Savan.
