Indeed. Before I keyboarded the two glossaries in TKD, I would never have
imagined there being words for "deodorant" (noSvagh), "dandruff" (quHvaj),
"paper clip" (mavjop), "writer's cramp" (ngav), "ponytail" (DaQ) and
"ponytail holder" (choljaH)! I don't claim to know these by heart, but now
I know they're in the lexicon and can easily look them up.
: "Duty station" is hardly a 24th century concept. What you're noticing
: isn't necessarily a focus on Star Trek terminology. I think it's more
: a matter of the early vocabulary tending to use military ideas.
Don't hesitate to add notes for some of the more "mundane" meanings. Go
ahead and annotate {yaH} "duty station" with "job, work" -- just don't
forget to indicate in some way (italics, brackets, asterisks, etc.) that
this isn't Okrand's original definition. Also you can add terms that are
widely used on this List, but haven't as yet been approved (or replaced) by
Okrand. For example: *{jabbI'IDghom} "mailing list, newsgroup, BBS" and
*{joH'a'} "god, goddess, deity" to name two.
