This question has popped up before; I don't think there was ever a

I'd say "yIjatlh".  After all, the actual referent, the language spoken, is
going to be singular.  We just don't know which one.

Here I'd have to accept either, perhaps with a slight implication given by
the speaker.  But that's just me.
