Yes. The second construction doesn't make much sense to me, either. "Die
Tür ist geschlossen", yes; *"Der Apfel [oder was auch immer] ist
weggenommen", no. "...ist weggenommen worden", perhaps. That is,
"weggenommen" feels to me only like a verbal participle, not like a
predicative adjective (though as an attributive adjective it might work
- "Der weggenommene Apfel").

Indeed. That's the primary meaning I get from "be taken away":
"weggebracht/weggenommen worden sein".
That would mean that {yaH} is roughly {nge'lu'}, though...

Yes, I do. Or rather, I think it could work.
I'd have to know the exact definition of "take away" as a translation of
{nge'} -- is it only "to remove/steal" or can it also be "to take
someone away (e.g. a prisoner in chains)".
