Re: Klingon Alphabet

One thing, SuStel, I don't give a hoot if the characters stand for sounds or words. You need to chill out, dump the taco-bell from off your belly, and listen. This list is designed to teach, inspire, and encourage people to learn and speak Klingon. But thanks to people like you and your arrogant, jerk manner, Klingon has not grown to its full potential. Now open your ears. You have a real anger-management problem and you really need to take a look in the mirror because you're getting all worked up over something very minute. Lets say y="yada," I="ida," v="go to hell," e="chill out," and m="grow up." I would tell my child to spell the command that I would give a person like you like this: "yada," "ida," "go to hell," "chill out," "grow up." Do you understand now, you arrogant man? Something like that would really help our language out. People like you would not. I suggest you stop picking and poking at every, little thing people say on this list and calm down. Now, my original email said that I would like it if an alphabet/Sanskrit/whatever would be named, made into cannon, and then given individual names for the characters used by Klingons. That way, IT'S NOT SO EARTHLING TO SPELL OUT bIjatlh 'e' yImev jay', SuStel, when teaching a Klingon class. Do you com-pre-hend? Please stop being rude, arrogant, and a jerk to people still trying to learn the Honorable Language. In fact, please refrain from using this list so that I can learn the language better. Thank you.

The question of if is an alphabet shouldn't matter

Suppose I told you that one of the Klingon writing symbols was called "yaDa"
by Klingons.

Now, tell me how to use it. Go ahead; I dare you.

You can't tell me what sound it stands for, because we don't know if the
writing symbols stand for sounds.

You can't tell me what word it stands for, because we don't know if the
writing symbols stand for words.

You can't tell me what syllable it stands for, because we don't know if the
writing symbols stand for syllables.

You can't tell me what suffix it stands for, because we don't know if the
writing symbols stand for suffixes.

In fact, you can't do ANYTHING with it, because you haven't got the foggiest
notion of how it's used!

You can't tell me how to spell something in Klingon if you don't know
anything about Klingon spelling. And you don't know anything about Klingon
spelling. You don't even know if they spell with their writing system!

The ***ONLY*** thing you can say is how words are PRONOUNCED. That's all.

What's worse: you can't even give me a complete symbol inventory. You know
so little about the writing system, you can't even show me all of the
symbols, and be certain that's all of them. You know that picture of glyphs
on the KLI's page? That's no good; it's not "canon." It doesn't count.
It's not used by Klingons.

So don't bother pining for names for Klingon "letters." There are no such
things known.
