KJV:
[...] any graven image, or any likeness of any thing
is *in heaven* above, or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth [...]
Since the English word "heaven" is ambiguous, I've been
wondering whether it really refers here to the paradise
or rather to "the sky, firmament, or expanse of space
surrounding the earth" (cf. Webster Dictionary)?
In other words, does the commandment forbid us to make
"any graven image, or any likeness of the inhabitants
of the Paradise, i.e. the angels and the spirits of the
righteous deceased or are we forbidden to make images
and "bow to" various creatures which live "in heaven
(i.e. sky) above" or "in the earth beneath" or "in the
water under the earth", meaning people and animals,
including birds and fish?
Wouldn't {muDDaq} or {chalDaq} work better here?
Mind you, it's just a thought. I'm no expert on
biblical matters.
