Re: *Enterprise* Hol rurbe' tlhIngan Hol

Actually, I DID hear an attempt to say /pagh/ when the translation was
"nothing."

Everyone has to keep in mind that actors speaking Klingon have nobody to
teach them how to pronounce it.

Here's a challenge: come up with a few simple phrases in English. Hand a
Klingon dictionary to someone who doesn't speak the language, and tell him
to translate those phrases in five minutes and say them aloud to you.

Here's a sample of what you'll hear. "I will take you home" will become
something like "jee thap so joo." (In Paramountese, this would become "jee
thap so joo chah." They always add a "chah."

Don't be surprised if the Klingon you hear on TV doesn't make sense to you.
Trying to analyze it as if it made sense might be amusing, but will really
get you nowhere. The thing to do is to try to figure out how the actor came
up with the lines he DOES say.

Even when the klingon
uttered the word 'nothing' I did not hear "pagh" and how hard could it
have been to look that word up to use it ?
