... known to the 23rd century Federation as Amrita, that is.  The "off-screen
material" comes from the ST6 novelization:  Excelsior's science officer
Valtaine announces that a tremendous explosion had just been registered "in the
Amrita System".  That explosion, of course, was Praxis blowing up. 
Unfortunately, that line was not heard in the final cut of the movie.

This suggests that Amrita is only the Federation name for the Klingon sun. 
It's only logical that Terran or Federation stellar cartographers had mapped
that particular star long before they ever heard of the Klingons.  (BTW, I'm
told that "Amrita" is a name from Hindu mythology.  Most star names used by
astronomers on Earth come from mythology, most often Greco-Roman, with a few
names supplied by medieval Arab astronomers.)

The fact remains that we have no idea what name, if any, the Klingons commonly
use for their own sun or, in fact, if it's the same word used by Klingon
astronomers and starship navigators.
