the word is in TKD. Knowing that "Elas" is a planet in the
Tellun star system, is a bit of Star Trek Trivia.
Of course, I had the word first and _then_ looked it up in
one of the various Star Trek related websites, to figure out
a suitable definition :-)

that's why I put in dashes and (back)slashes to indicate where to start
and where to go:
1 - would be chanDaq (left to right)
- 1 would be tIng'evDaq/'evtIngDaq (right to left)
1
\ would be tIngchanDaq (top left to bottom right)
\
1 would be 'evDaq (bottom right to top left)
1
/ would be tIngDaq (top left to bottom right)
/ would be 'evchanDaq (bottom left to top right)

the way I look at this, 1, 2, 3 could go either chanDaq or tIngchanDaq,
a, b, c either 'evchanDaq or 'evDaq, and A, B, C either tIngDaq or
tIng'evDaq/'evtIngDaq.
I guess it's a matter of personal preference

I would find it more intuitive then to reverse the order of capital
letters, then instead of...

it would be "1", "a" and "A" that are "one-letter-definitions"

it's cute, but I don't like it
(assuming this indicates a reverse entry)
because, if you have a lot of clues that go "the other way",
it's a hassle for the reader, and she'd probably just shoot
the puzzle to smithereens :-/
