Bonjour,
Mon nom est Louis-Noël Fontaine. Je suis saxophoniste et compositeur.
J'ai comme projet d'écrire une oeuvre pour voix de baryton et un
ensemble instrumental varié i.e. quatuor de saxophones, clarinette,
piano et flûte à bec. Je veux utiliser un texte écrit en Klingon. La
première de cet opéra de chambre doit avoir lieu au prochain congrès
mondial du saxophone qui doit se tenir à l'Université du Québec à
Montréal (UQAM, Québec, Canada) en juillet de l'an 2000. Je suis à la
recherche d'un texte déjà écrit en Klingon. Ce texte doit réunir les
conditions suivantes :
1) L'opéra doit avoir une durée de 20 à 30 minutes. Il doit être en un
acte. Il faut donc un texte qui soit une histoire courte et complète en
elle-même.
2) Il doit y avoir qu'un seul personnage.
3) Un saga guerrière, un légende ou un poême épique sont dans mes
premier choix.
4) Le texte devra être accompagné d'une traduction française ou anglaise
pour permettre au chanteur ainsi qu'à moi-même de mieux comprendre le
sens de l'histoire. ( je suis un grand amateur de Star Trek et je
connais quelque mots de Klingon mais je ne suis pas assez avancé dans
cette langue pour la lire courramment)
5) Aussi, si possible, d'avoir un enregistrement du dit texte pour mieux
saisir l'accent, le phrasé et la prononciation. J'ai en main le
dictionnaire Klingon et je dois me procurer bientôt d'autres livres et
documents audio sur cette langue, mais je risque de faire fausse route
si je ne sais pas comment prononcer correctement les mots.
Je suis pressé par le temps. Il faut assimiler le texte, écrire l'oeuvre
(musicalement), la travailler avec les musiciens et chanteur et celà
d'ici juillet de l'an 2000. Ce qui peut sembler long, mais pour une
oeuvre de musique contemporaine de cette envergure c'est très court.
S.V.P. me dire où je peux me procurer le texte qui remplit les
conditions mentionnés plus haut. Ou encore si il y a une personne
aimable qui possède un texte ou encore est capable d'en traduire un ou
même de le composer.

Hi,
My name is Louis-Noël Fontaine. I am a saxophone player and a composer.
I have a project to compose a musical piece for Baritone voice and a
small musical ensemble. This ensemble will be composed of a Saxophone
quartet, clarinet, piano and a recorder (the baroque flute not a tape
recorder...). I would like to use a text written in the Klingon
Language. The premiere of this chamber opera will be at the next world
saxophone congress in Montréal (Canada) at the "Université du Québec à
Montréal" (UQAM) in the year 2000. I am looking for a text written in
that language (Klingon). The text must have these specifics features:
1) The opera must have a performing time of 20 to 30 minutes and must be
in one act. So I need a short story that is complete by itself.
2) No more than one actor.
3) It could be a warrior story, a fairy tale or an epic poem.
4) The text should have an english or french translation to give a
chance to the singer and myself to understand properly the story. (I am
a fan of Star Trek and I know a few words of Klingon, but my knowledge
of this language is limited for reading it fluently)
5) Also, if it is possible, I need a recording of that text for the
correct prononciation, accent and phrasing. I have the Klingon
Dictionnary and I will buy other books and audio document, but if I
don't know how to prononce the text properly the opera will have no
sense at all.
I am in a hurray. I must learn the text, compose the music, work with
the musician and the singer between the moment I receive the text and
the congress in July 2000. It look like I have plenty of time, but with
my experience it is a very short time for a piece of contemporary music
of that size.
So, please if somebody can tell me where I can find that text that fill
all the previous conditions. Or if a very nice person possess that text
or want to compose and/or translate a text for me.
