I don't know if that's a problem. After all, a brother has to be
SOMEbody's brother; it's nonsensical to talk of a brother without referring
to who it's the brother of. If I'm bothering to say that the brother is
old, it seems unlikely that I'd do that if the brother were in fact younger
than the person he's the brother of (or if that's the case, I wouldn't
throw it off as an adjective; I'd be saying it as a clause on its own). I
think in Hebrew I'd just say "my old brother", and not bother making it a
relative form. nIv and QIv really don't work for me; they are value
judgements more than ages. Maybe something working off "moch", since the
elder brother outranks the younger, but moch is a noun. Me, I would stick
with "qan."
