qepHom

As we are now midway through the first quarter of the KLI's sixth year, I
want to give you something to think about.

The KLI was initially created because most people seem to discover and
pursue Klingon on their own, and the organization served the purpose of
bringing them together, and through the pages of <<HolQeD>> providing a
common forum for discussion and exploration of the language.

In the last five years I think we have done a good job of that, and I
have every reason to expect we will continue to do so as well. But it is
also time to go a bit further.

Several people, in several countries, have asked what we can do to
promote Klingon in their area. While the annual <<qep'a'>> is a
wonderful event, only a small fraction of the membership is able to
attend. What can we do to bring Klingon speakers together, in other
cities, and at other times?

I would like to ask for your help. I would like to create several small
gatherings, <<qepHommey>>, where other KLI members might congregate --
perhaps only once or twice a year, perhaps once a month -- to meet others
who share our common interest, and to speak and hear spoken the Klingon
language.

My "editorial" in the March issue of HolQeD will have more details on
these <<qepHommey>>, but for now I'd like to hear from members
(particularly members in larger cities with lots of KLI members) who
would be willing to open their homes, or otherwise provide a location,
for these meetings. Please send such mail directly to me,
[email protected], and not to the list. Use the subject header: qepHom.

In the next issue of HolQeD I hope to be able to provide a list of cities
which will be hosting these <<qepHommey>> in the months to come. I
believe this kind of "grassroots" action will energize our command of the
language, help the spread of Klingon, and quite coincidentally be an
awful lot of fun.

Thank you for your continued support of the KLI, its mission, and its
goals.

Lawrence
