Re: New word from Okrand

: Hmmm. I don't remember the concept of the passage being "enclosed" as part
: of the definition of "vegh." After all, a gate is not necessarily entierly
: enclosed. A gate through a fence usually does not have anything above it,
: if you catch my meaning. I realy got the impression that what was
: important was the fact the gate was intended for the purpose of allowing
: access through the fence.

I've always imagined that {lojmIt} "door, gate" refers to heavy wooden
doors, city gates and such. I think of massive fortified gateways leading
into fortresses complete with spiked bars, thick locking doors, maybe even
drawbridges, etc. Real holes through the wall that can be closed and
defended from attack. (Analogous to the {HIchDal} on a starship or space
station.)

Hmmm. Do you really see Klingon houses being surrounded by waist-high
chain-link fences, surrounding neatly manicured lawns? wejpuH! I suppose
wire fences might be used to enclose a targ corral on a farm, though.

Not that we have words for "fence" or "wall". {{;-)
