Folks,
After lurking a while on this list, it is now time to become an *active*
card carrying member of the Klingon Language Institute.
I am part of a group of Mac developers who are working to get a 'Klingon
Language Kit' put together - this would effectively make a Mac OS based
system capable of using two languages: the one you originally installed,
and Klingon. Similar kits are available to allow you to add Hebrew,
Chinese, Japanese, etc. to your system.
We are currently at a point in our development where we need Klingon
Language specialists.
There's several steps in creating a languge kit, simplified:
1) get a license from Paramount. We're working closely with Apple to get
this done, and making good progress.
2) get the technical bits you need to create a language kit for the Mac
OS. Since this started on a mailing list where mac developer hang out,
we've got this covered.
3) translate parts of the Mac OS, and some applications
4) translate the (paper) documentation, and the box everthing goes in.
For points 3 and 4 we need help. Of course, all of us are very interested
in the language, or we would never have started this. Some of us, like
me, are even members of the KLI. However, you won't find us claiming we
could translate Hamlet, or the Bible. Although the Language Kit is not as
big an effort as that, we sure want to do things right.
Another member of the team, Katherine Cochrane ([email protected])
visited the conference last week, and met some folks who are very
interested in helping us. Naturally, I want to extend the invitation to
all of you. If you're interested, mail me or Katherine, and we'll get you
aboard..
