You make a good point, but I think you may have mixed your movies. I
believe that "From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever."
is a quote from Hin-mah-tu-ya-laht-kekht (Thunder rising in lofty
mountains), called by the white-eyes "Chief Joseph," on the occasion of his
surrender to Colonel Miles in Montana when Miles had succeeded in
intercepting the Nez Perce in their attempt to reach Canada.
Hin-mah-tu-ya-laht-kekht was one of the heroes of my callow youth in Idaho
and my opinion of Miles is not for gentle ears. (Not so much because of
Hin-mah-tu-ya-laht-kekht but because of his betrayal of Goyahkla)
BTW, for anyone interested, there is a file downloadable from the KLI
database that has a discussion of the various attempts people have made to
translate the "Today is a good day to die." phrase. The file is called, if
memory serves, DAY2DIE.TXT. The principal contributers to the discussion
are Martin, Shoulson and Whiteacre.
