Let's see if I can try.
For {q}: Raise the VERY BACK of your tongue until it (or your trachea)
touches the uvula in the back of your mouth. This should shut off all
breathing for you, so if you did it already STOP and release it and wait
until you've read the whole paragraph! Turning blue mid-message won't
help. Imagine you're about to vomit and are gagging, and holding back the
heaves. I think that's how you'd be doing it. So bring your tongue up
waaaay in the back and make a "k"-like sound there. That is, release the
closure suddenly, with a slight puff of air. It'll sound a little like a
cough, but it's made higher up than a true cough.
For {Q}: Do pretty much the same thing, only this time bring up a little
more of your tongue in the back, and don't release it cleanly. Release it
only partway, for a moment of a harsh, raspy gurgle in the back of your
throat. If you can do a good {H}, imagine doing a q and then instantly an
{H}, only the H is farther back than usual. Like maybe you're hawking to
spit. That any better?
