I recently read on alt.startrek.klingon...
This is a noble a flattering effort but it caused me to
think about how such works can be critiqued...
This tells me that there are probably far too few talented
Klingonist out there to review all the works we would
like to have published. (THis also assumes that
there are enough completed works ready for review.)
Let's just assume for a moment that there are
10 translated/original tlhIngan Hol works ready to
get reviewed. Can we do it?
There's a lot of detail left out here that has a lot to do with whether or
not we would be able to do this. First of all, would the works be prose or
poetry? Krankor won't touch poetry and most of the rest of us don't like to
work with it. Why? Because it is hard to read. It tends to be full of
grammatical errors and cryptic phrases and when as an editor I try to point
this out, I face a lot of defensiveness about how any change will throw off
the meter and rhyme and the incomprehensible sections are okay because of
"poetic license".
It feels like it takes a lot of work to read, and I can recognize how my
attempts to straighten out the thought (which is my strength) will screw up
the poetry, so I'm reluctant to say anything, which leaves me feeling
futile and all the more frustrated for how hard the stuff is to read.

Isn't that ENOUGH?
Poems may be fun to write (they apparently are, since such a large portion
of the original works posted here are poems), but they are very slow and
painful to edit. It winds up being frustrating both for the editor and for
the writer.
Meanwhile, prose is much more straightforward to edit, though writers don't
seem to be finding material they like to write all that much. With prose,
the writer has to actually write something others can read. That makes it
much harder on the writer, and so, apparently, less appealing.
If there were ten well written pieces of prose, I feel quite confident we'd
have the talent and dedication to quickly get it reviewed. If we have ten
obtuse poems, it would take us at least three years to review them.
The notorius delays of "Hamlet" indicate that we have
fairly limited resorces to take on such a task. I hope
I am wrong.
Hamlet is not an original work, so there are the special problems of
conveying concepts (like "queen") which are quite alien to the warrior
tongue, and MOST OF IT IS IN VERSE.
I would like to get some feedback, in this forum, indicating
that there *is* a way to effectivly review submitted works
for publication.
Step one: Write something that is as fun to read as it is to write. When
that happens, reviewers will seek a chance to read it instead of moaning at
the task of reading it. Write for an audience of more than one.
My complaint here is actually a simple extension of my single sense of
