qep'a' past and future

Okay, it's Saturday. I've finally caught up on some of my lost sleep. What
the other attendees of the week's qep'a' didn't mention was the endless
string of phone calls at all hours of the day and night from radio stations
all around the world. I don't normally do too many radio interviews any
more, but given our desire to increase foreign membership I wasn't about to
pass up interviews with New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. The folks
at the BBC went a little nutso though, I gave six separate interviews to
British radio. I have to say I was very gratified to come home yesterday and
find email from someone in South Africa who heard me on the radio. What a
feeling!

What can I tell you about the qep'a'? It was glorious. I can't believe it
came off as well as it did. I can't believe I'm still exhausted (and still
have interviews to give). I was very pleased we had so many people there,
and that they got the chance to shine before the media and get themselves
recognized for all their hard work. For those of you who could not be there
but have been active in the KLI, your names were included on the information
sheets provided to the media in the Press Kits I'd prepared in advance.

It was a blast. It was an educational experience. It was productive. It
was informative. Some changes in the format and content of HolQeD will be
one of the most obvious results from the meeting that you'll see in the
coming months. And it is my very sincere hope that bringing a dozen people
together like this will strengthen and reaffirm the core of people working to
make the KLI all that it can be.

As for next year? Yes, everyone was in agreement, we've GOT to do this
again. A number of people have been writing me, generously offering their
time and their locale for the next meeting. I thank you for this. Having
put such an event together, so quickly and all alone, I can't begin to
describe the hassles involved. But, as I told Glen Proechel at the end of
last year's camp, when you have a successful event, you don't immediately
expand it and assume it will get even better. No, instead you regroup, take
what you have that worked real well and keep it. Re-examine the things you
think could be done better. So, for at least next year, I would like to ask
you all to come back to Philadelphia. Give me a little time, to regroup and
get my own bearings back in line, and I'll even be able to give you a
prospective date. And yes, please, feel free to contact me with offers of
assistance. There's a lot to do, a lot that I would have like to have done
this time around, and a lot that will be required since with this much lead
time I expect we will have a lot more people.

Start planning now. I want to see all of you, those I've come to know well
and those I've barely spoken to as yet, those who I just said farewell to and
those who couldn't attend this year. All of you. Please. This is what we
need, I think, more than this mailing list, more than HolQeD; a chance to
come together.

I'm getting a bit misty eyed, so let me move on to a related subject. In the
months to come, you'll have the chance to meet some of the heavy hitters
within the KLI. I've been negotiating with Adam Malin, President of Creation
Entertainment, to have KLI members speaking at Creation shows all around the
country throughout the next year. As these events are confirmed the dates
and locations will be posted to the mailing list. And since Malin has hinted
that he's willing to fly me around the country (a bit), perhaps I'll have a
chance to meet with some of you before next summer's qep'a'. If so, I'll be
sure and bring my KLI poker set, and the list of poker terms that Krankor
made for this past qep'a'. Why should we have to wait till summer for that
bit of fun?

More news as it develops. And again, a heartfelt thank you to those who came
to the qep'a', it was truly remarkable to spend time with you all.

Lawrence
