I thought I'd try to post this again. I haven't heard from anyone on
it, so if it actually got *through*, y'all must still be ROTFL in hysterics
at my attempt at translation or are still in shock at the fact that i have
the audacity to create words compounded from other words in the dictionary.
I know that y'all consider it heresy of the worst sort, but I tent to believe
that a language that is static is a dead one. We invent new Enlish every
day, why not do it with Klingon too? (I realize that I'm a mere mortal
questioning the gods, but hey, I'm not a linquist. I'm a mom, a CS bachelors,
and pursuing a masters in botany.
We've (my cousin Brenda and I) have been operating in a vacuum. We realize
that everyone won't agree with our greated words anymore than everybody will
agree with our view of Klingon civilization and culture. (For those of you
who asked, you should be getting the draft report on Klingon mating customs within the next week).
Anyway, Here is the Minstrel Boy (written my Thomas More (not Sir Thomas Moore,
the Headless (how does one do a headless smiley? :-) ), but he who wrote
"Believe Me if all those Endearing Young Charms" and other love ballads.
This was sung by O'Brien and Capt. Maxwell in the episode "The Wounded."
It sounded very klingon to me ... but then "They" are Irish ... pretty
close approximation :-)
The mintrel boy to the war has gone,
In the ranks of death you will find him.
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him.
"Land of song" said the warrior bard,
"Though all the world betrays thee,
One sword at least thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee."
The Minstrel fell! - but the foeman's chain
Could not bring his proud soul under.
The harp he lov'd Ne'er spoke again
For he tore its chords asunder.
And said, "No chains shall sully thee
Thou soul of love and bravery!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free
They shall never sound in slavery."
