Trek TOS stuff in TKD

They certainly were used. I don't remember the name of the episode.
I presume, from your description, that it's the one where the Klingons
give one of the native factions primitive firearms technology, so that
when that faction takes over, they will rule in the stead of their
Klingon benefactors. 

In the episode, Kirk is bitten by a mugato, and is in fact cured by a
native healer (the love interest of the episode) using mako root.

Sherman's Planet is the planet under dispute in "The Trouble With
Tribbles". Space station K7 orbited it (?), and the quadrotriticale
(loSpev, anyone?) that the tribbles ate was en route to there.
