If you'd like to do more than just borrow one of the existing copies of
the dissertation, it is quite easy to buy one direct from University
Microfilms. That's what they are for. Most graduate institutions
require the doctoral candidate to pay to have UM put the dissertation on
film. You even get to sign a form giving up any royalties from the sale
of the dissertation copies (though I think you get a cut if more than ten
copies are sold within a five year period; something like that. It's been
a while since I did this, and to my knowledge no one has paid to have a
copy of *my* dissertation <mutter mutter>). I have no clue how much it
would cost, let alone how useful a fiche would be to you. But, the
option is there.
