Re: "love"

Could you give a specific example in Klingon. I could interpret
this a couple different ways and I'd rather not comment until I
see exactly what you mean.

I think he DID intentionally omit love. Nobody who worked as
hard as he did to include so many words on so many different
topics would not have listed a word for "hate" and "one who is
loved" and then ACCIDENTALLY omit a verb for "love" or a noun
that refers to love itself rather than one who is loved. I
think that, as a linguist trying to depict a very alien
language and the mindset behind it, he chose to imagine a
people for whom love as a discrete concept does not exist. They
do have mates, who are indeed ones who are loved, but that is a
role for them, like husband or wife. What verb do you do toward
your wife or husband that is unique to that relationship; that
is definitive to that relationship? "I wife you, my wife." "I
husband you, my husband." Right.

So, for a Klingon, there is no word for the concept of love and
there is no single verb that describes action related to the
many different kinds of bond that you have with banglI'.

I suspect it has more to do with the FCC and the fines related
to stating the F word through public media accessible to
children of the Christian Right...

ramqu' Qaghvam. I'll save my replacement proverbs for more
worthy errors I am sure to continue to commit.
