<p dir="ltr"><i>This isn&#39;t really a Klingon language question though. None of those words are in the transcription system devised by Marc Okrand, where they would be {betleH}, {ma&#39;veq}, {meqleH}, {Daqtagh}, {ghonDoq}, {tajtIq}, {qutluch} (and I&#39;m not sure what the other two are). But they don&#39;t need to be, since the subtitles aren&#39;t for linguists but a general audience, where ad hoc spellings of Klingon words is de rigueur. Writing {betleH} instead of &quot;bat&#39;leth&quot; would actually be confusing to most people who are not Klingonists.</i></p>

She did not say &quot;d&#39;k tahg&quot;/{Daqtagh}, and she said something like &quot;gt&#39;set&quot; (it sounded like &quot;chitsit&quot; to me) before &quot;ni&#39;itzu&quot; (sounded like &quot;neet-zoo&quot;). But I don&#39;t know what these are supposed to be, as they don&#39;t sound like the names of any Klingon weapons I know. Anyone? Maybe these are from FASA or extended canon?</i></p>

</blockquote></div><div>Having replayed the clip several more times, I get the same spoken line you get, De&#39;vID, matching Version 2, although she seems to pronounce kut&#39;luch as &quot;kunluk.&quot; {tajtIq} is the only one she says that I&#39;ve only seen in its Okrandian transcription (is it mentioned anywhere but KGT?) but &quot;tajtiq&quot; makes an okay ad hoc spelling. I&#39;ve never heard of either &quot;gt&#39;set&quot; (which did sound like &quot;chitsit&quot;) or &quot;ni&#39;itzu&quot;. {chetvI&#39;} and ch&#39;tak are as close as I know to &quot;chitsit.&quot; As for &quot;neet-zoo,&quot; I got nothing. Apparently Kim Stinger ad libbed, and very convincingly, too. Perhaps some propmaker will invent two new melee weapons to be named &quot;gt&#39;set&quot; and &quot;ni&#39;itzu.&quot;</div>
<div><br></div><div>But your point about Okrandian transcription is well put. Not only would it confuse fans familiar with words like &quot;bat&#39;leth,&quot; but canon practice would be to devise ad hoc spellings for words like {tajtIq} and {ghonDoq}.</div>
