I didn't say that Germanic and Romance have just given some words to
english, english is made mostly of these.
Of course, every language has borrowed words.

Europe's southern languages are based on romance, or latin. The northern
(central) europe is a germanic language.
During some time, the romans occupied Great britain, that's why many roman
(or french) words can be found in english. (e.g. anniversaire -->
anniversary)
And that's also why english Hol has a very large vocabulary.
