having been a star trek fan since the first episode I have learned to
watch it as a translator.
The fact is that it is extremely ethnocentric to the extent it does not
perceive of humans as being other than 1st world people. Such may be
repeated in this KLI.
That we in Jamaica (assuming for the sake of argument are human) do
speak very much as Klingsons; i.e. "what do you want?" is often our
opening remark, and that amenties are rarely used (tho' our more
educated classes do use them) makes the attempt to 'westernze tlhIngan a
path we should not chose.
The average speaker of non-standard English here is more interested in
completing a concept than exploring it. Were I to write this statement
in patois it would (translated--
star trek too foreign. Them not check for we. They think say everyone
go on like them. Klingons go on more like we than them..
