Seems to me such a footnote would have been useful for some Terrans
as well! :-)  *I* certainly didn't have a clue about the intended 
analogy here.  Goes to show that even if you translate the meaning 
behind the words perfectly, there might still be missing background 
information that keeps the translation from working as well as it 
could.  Hidden assumptions are *dangerous*!
