Never used in canon.

Trek notes:

The Galactic Edge (Barrier) is a reddish energy field of some kind.
Deflectors register it, but sensors do not: "density negative, radiation
negative, energy negative". Contact with it transforms those few humans
with a high ESP rating into mutant super-ESPers. The automated Galactic
Mining Station on Delta-Vega is near the Galactic Barrier (TOS "Where No
Man Has Gone Before"). The Barrier has also been seen in TOS "By Any Other
Name" and TOS "Is There in Truth No Beauty?". For more information see the
article at Memory Alpha
(http://www.memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Galactic_barrier ).

The Galactic Barrier is not to be confused with the Great Barrier {veH tIn}
surrounding the planet {QI'tu'} at the center of our galaxy, which
imprisons the God-Being (ST5). For an image of the real galactic
antimatter cloud at the center of the Milky Way see
