Yes, but do you really want to make it that hard on yourself? There are a
lot of nuances that simply can't be picked up anywhere else but in TKD. Can
you work out, for instance, the difference between {rol ghaj Hoch tlhIngan}
and {rol ghaj Hoch tlhInganpu'}? Or between {ghopDu'} and {ghopmey}? And
that's just the number suffixes. Wait until you start trying to working out
what you can and can't do with {-meH} clauses; now there would be a fun can
of worms to try and open without TKD...
In short: while TKD isn't comprehensive by a long shot, it's a lot better
than the alternative.

While translating Klingon to English is one matter, translating English to
Klingon is an entirely different matter. Believe me, it would be far easier
for you to have a set of the rules in front of you than it would for you to
work out the rules yourself before you can even start to use those rules.
